hi,
just signed up to this site. it seems like the best NSR forum on the net.
I just bought myself an 1988 MC16 250R. I should be picking it up in a few days, and riding it home which im looking forward to.!
Its got K&n's on, and apparently been re jetted (i hope, becuse ive heard you can damge the engine if not)(correct me if im wrong)!
Its got a larger back wheel on it, from a NSR500. Has anyone heard of this being done?
Im a bit surprised the rev counter only goes to 10,000, i expected it to be higher than that.
Anyway, hope someone can shed some light on my points above.
Hi eduk,
Welcome to the forum.Personaly i woudnt use k&n cones on my strokers!! They mess **** carburation up & lead to a lot of time spent re-jettin.If its bn dun rite then ull b ok,if not then the motor will not b long for this world. There is an mc16 standard airbox & filter on ebay at the mo (in shops) only £15........i would get that & run stock jettin.
N.B. this is only my opinion.
As for it only revvin to 10k......dont no much bout the NSR's, but im runnin mc16 barrels & pistons on mc18 bottom end & its happy to rev wayyyy past 10k. Possible carbon build up on **** pv's stoppin them opening fully??? Cost u 2 x base gaskets & a few hours to fix.
Others will b of more help soon!!!
Anyway, all the best with your new toy!!!
welcome eduk. nice to have another MC16 aboard
10-11k on the rev counter is right. twostrokes don't rev to the moon like fours. as for the rear wheel. i cannot think how you would get a nsr500 rim in the swinging arm. the 16 is very narrow. i,m in the process of fitting an MC18 arm to mine ,so i can run a 150 tyre! you need to ask the last owner whats been done to the bike. are the carbs standard? or MC18,21 carbs. as for pod filters. andy runs pods on his 21 ok,and i am thinking of useing them when i fit my MC18 carbs stephen RC45 thinks they should jet ok on his dyno.
bring the bike along to the track or dyno days i,d love to get a look at that back wheel
well the last owner just said the wheel was out of an NSR500. he seems genuine enough... its a gold wheel btw(sort of)
I belive the carbs are standard. but with k&ns. he says its been rejetted.
ive not picked the bike up yet, but its gonna be a failry long journy when i do, so i should get a good idea how well its setup, with regads to jets etc.
Ive heard these bikes are good for 0-60 in about 4,5 secs. are they really that quick? (hope so!)
they are very quick 0-60. can,t give you times yet as i,ve not run mine on the standind quarter yet. just remember you need to use lots of revs to get to the power have you had twostrokes before
yeah, ive had plently of 125 2 strokes. rd, tzr etc. But this is my first 250 2 stroker. Im amazed by the BHP diffrence. TZR125 had 12hp, so for an engine just twice as big to have almost 5 times more power. is great engineering.!
im hoping to do some sprinting on my NSR. has anyone else done this on here? i have a freind who won the 600 class, on his TZR 250. so i should have a good chance.
you,ll be ok then
i was gonna sprint my nsr when i first got it. i,ve got a mate who sprints a tricked up Z1000 turbo with the NSA. but i never got round to it i find the nsr is more fun going round bends.
so do you think this larger back wheel is something i should be concerned about?
Ive go the origanal wheel, minus the tyre. so i could always put that back on, But as ive not ridden an NSR before, i wont know if the handling is being affected.
Is there any likely saftey issues?
