reed valve gaskets

Sat May 21, 2011 9:45 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hello again, guys

I have looked at the parts manual and realized that there is only one gasket in the reed valve assy (Ms21 in this case), that fits between reed valves and engine casing. Is there no gasket between reed valves and "intake rubber"? My old YPVS used to have two gaskets, the outermost being a metallic type.

Back to the nsr. When I removed the carbs I only found one gasket, the one shown on the parts manual. In my case, this gasket is glued to the engine casing. Should I remove it and install new ones or can I leave it on? This gasket is black and is made in one piece.

in theory the black plastic will seal as it will flex to the shape. If you want to do the job properly, stuff the cases, use gasket stripper to soften thw old gasket and peel it off. I treat the surface the same as the barrel, so only a fingernail or plastic scraper, generous gasket stripper & soaking time.
