Hi all i have a totaly standard mc21 45bhp, and was going to leave it that way to prolong it's life, but my question is if the ignition won't advance in the last three gears surley that is not good?? if ignition doesnt advance when it in the top of the rev range then the ignition must be retarded, will this do any damage in the long run??
just worried about the splice airbox mod, as iv'e seen different thoughts of weather it needs rejetting or not, somone said there bike siezed after half mile because he just did the mod and nothing else, others say they did the mod and 2/3 of there mates and alls fine, would like to feel that power though!!
You wouldn't have to do the air box mod. But once you've ridden it de-restricted you wont go back _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
You should always and without fail check the jetting after any modification, but if I recall correctly the seized bike in question had race pipes fitted.
Just to put some more doubt in your mind, we've seen bikes (MC18 and MC21) that needed to go a tad leaner, bikes that needed to go a tad richer, and some that needed no changes, but they all saw at least a 15hp increase in power. _________________ Andy.

Exactly,I would hate to seize it up, if I was to do the mod wiresplice and airbox how would I know if it is ok? I can do the plug chop but would that not be too late if there was a problem, as you do the chop after some hard rpm riding don't you?
Also could I just do wiresplice and leave airbox standard and reduce the risk?
So I've read but some say its not always needed so that's why I was going to leave it standard just to be on safe side, not wanting to get into a jetting discussion but where would I get main jets from just incase I'm feeling brave??
Enjoy your bike mate!! If you want to feel the power then do the mod- if washing and detailing your bike, making sure everything is just perfect makes you happy then leave it standard.
No- one can make the decision for you, mine was already done when I bought mine and I'm already used to the power (10 days later) but objective now is to focus on handling to ensure Im able to use it the way it was intended... Power is nothing if you can't control it, maybe another avenue for you to consider while you still decide to cut or not
I know what your saying, I'm lucky enough to have a zx10 as well so if I need to feel some power there it is, but there is nothing like a two stroke power delivery.can antonecshed any light on the airbox mod if I do the wire splice and leave airbox will that reduce the risk or is pointless doing one without the other? I am getting tempted I keep talking my self in and out of doing it.
The splice takes 2 minutes. Why not ride to your local rolling road, get a run done without the splice and one after and compare the air fuel ratios of the two runs. It will most likely be no different. I did just the splice and the fueling is still spot on. If I did the airbox mod too I would get the fueling checked again.
