WHERE TO BEGIN WHEN SEARCHING FOR AN NSR250?

Tue Aug 09, 2011 1:32 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I am looking to eventually purchase a Honda NSR. I love the bike, but I have never ridden one.

Anyone think it is smarter to go after the MC21 over MC28???
Furthermore, this business about derestricting the horsepower limits, is this necessary?

It seems you should be able to get some pretty rad speed out of 45-50 horsepower (i think thats the hp for the MC28??).

Basically, I am a complete novice at tuning and repairs so I need some guidance.

I would appreciate any insightful thoughts from NSR250 owners about where to begin? thanks

Hello Shinobi, and welcome to NSR-WORLD.

Please read the tuning section of the Main Site and search the forum (and for starters read the thread just below this one!) for details of tuning and delimiting the MC21 and MC28. The thread just below this one also includes relevant tuning information.

WELL LOOKS LIKE IT'LL BE A MC21 FOR STARTERS, BUT I REALLY AM GOING TO HAVE TO BONE UP ON MY MECHANIC SKILLS.

EITHER THAT OR DEPEND ON MECHANICS OUT HERE IN NYC. TO BE HONEST I HAVE NEVER SEEN A NSR OUT HERE. : )

HOPEFULLY I WILL FIND AN ENTHUSIAST WHO IS SELLING WHO HAS TAKEN THE RIGHTS STEPS IN MAINTAINING THE BIKE SO I GET OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT.

Please do not post in capitals.

Keep an eye on the Classifieds section. Bikes often come up for sale in the USA, but you will most likely need to be prepared to travel. You could try a "wanted" post in Classifieds, as someone out there may be considering selling but not yet advertising.

There are at least 3 NSR's in New York that I know of, but not seen any of the owners post for some time.

Be aware that it can be a problem to register a twostroke (in the US, not here Wink) if it isn't titled already.

Apparently VT will register ANYTHING under 300cc even for no-residents.

I have seen a couple NSR's in CT and I think someone was selling one a while back, probably gone now. Rare sport bikes is the best bet, but be prepared to wrench, 2 stroke is a hands-on machine regardless of the brand.

Apparently I'm not up to date on the latest rules, so I will re renter my post for the third time trying to comply with those rules (simple PM would have worked instead of deleting the post twice with no explanation)

There is a MC18 right now up for auction in CT, the auction to which I can not post links (sorry, didn't know, and I did read the rules)

As for Vermont registration, I have not done it myself yet, but I know number of people who have registered various 2 stroke machinery there being non-resident, one as recently as this Friday.

Very cool thanks Dimitry for the information. I do know of the NSRM18 in Connecticut which you speak of. Looks awesome, wish I was buying now, its close enough to New York City to try and get a taste first. What do you own?

I have a pair of '89 MC18, same as the one on fleaBay, both incomplete and needing some work but I don't have much free time lately to wrench. Probably will get to them over winter, make one complete bike and sell the other as "project". Few friends already inquired about the "extra" NSR
