Speedo as tachometer on MC28?

Fri Aug 19, 2011 3:34 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

So I noticed when I gave the bike a few revs, the speedo appeared to jump up with rpms like a digital tach. It shows 0 at idle but when you give it a twist, it'll rev up to 72, 110, etc. It didn't appear too accurate, but close?

The actual analog tach works fine, so it makes me wonder if there was some splicing going on. I tried searching the forum, but didn't see anything if this is common...or I'm using the wrong keyword(s).

Keep in mind the bike was in neutral and I wasn't doing a burnout...at least I don't think I was.

Sounds like you might need a new battery, I gave seen similar things when my rectifier failed and fried the battery.

Well, the previous owner said he just put in a new battery and it looks new-ish. Hmmm.

Check the voltaage when the bike is running, maybe he put a new one in because the rectifier is shot and cooked his last one.
