The upper and lower bushings on the shock need to be narrowed just a little bit. The upper mounting hole needs to be made larger as the NSR has a larger bolt on the top. Then slide it in and bolt it down. It was alot easier than I thought it would be. I have the Tyga pipes that both exit on the right. The left pipe crosses under the suspention linkeage. I lucked out because there is about 1-2 mm of space between the pipe and the linkage with no wieght on the bike.
Steve
How does the bike feel after you fitted the f3 rear shock?
Surely the spring rate is now way out because it was made for a big fat heavy four stroke:lol:
Can you replace the spring on the f3 shock with the nsr one?
Also can you tell me how long the shock is from the center of the top eye to the center of the bottom eye.
Better still if you could post a picture of the mod on this web site i think it would be useful to other mc18 owners who want to do this like me but i need to look into it further before i go ahead.
hey steve, this sounds like a great mod for us big folks that love riding little nsr's. your bike must look slammed now, any pics?also does it feel like a big bike now ? with my gsxr 600 and my nsr next to each other they look like the same height , but the gsxr feels more comfortable than the nsr . is it because the nsr is so much narrower ?
I'll try a get some pictures up. Some before and after. The shock was set up for a 170lbs.rider. I am one of those bigger folks so it fells about right. I still need to swap in my new fork springs. It feels more like my mc-21. The mc-18 sits a little low in the rear in stock trim and even lower with a 17inch rear wheel.
hey steve, can the ride height be raised by fitting a stock f3 shock. i dont have the dough and even if i did i havnt seen one on ebay in a while . i want to do this mod soon , my bike is all apart right now so this is a perfect time to go for it . can i bug you with a few questions while i am doing this? thanks
I'm almost positive that the cbr 600 f3 stock shock is actually a bit shorter than the MC21 shock, and that because it lacks ride height adjustabiity, ride height on the NSR would actually be reduced therefore. I looked into this a long time ago and so can't remember the specifics, but it was something like 305mm for NSR versus 295mm for CBR f3. _________________ -Jim

Ohlins do a shock for the NSR cost $1300 NZ.Tats not much for a new set up shock with spring rate for your weight and riding style. The shock has ride height rebound and comp adjustments.I have one on my race bike and it works very well.Save your money.
on a mc 21r what can i do to raise her up a bit . there has been some talk about flipping the linkages and also about swapping shocks from a f3 . is the stock f3 shock really shorter than the nsr. please help
