Yorkshire 2-stroke day, NSR broken down..

Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:29 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Went on the 2-stroke rally yesterday at Sherburn-in-Elmett, Yorks.... there was loads of strokers there including another NSR (a very nice MC28) and my MC21... I'd been looking forward to this event all year and my NSR has been running very well..... About a mile into the ride and it started missfiring at about 8k revs, gradually got worse untiI had to stop and come back..by the time i got home (another 8 miles) it was running on one cylinder, phutt phutting, backfiring and would only run on 2 cyl's at 7k revs, above or below that speed it went onto one cyl'...! I've no idea what the problem is at the moment so I'm going to have a look today. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers. Rob.

PS I went out and re-joined the rideout on my aircooled RD250F so not a total loss....took a bit of stick from the other guys about Honda reliability though .. Smile

Quick update..... only had time for a quick look this afternoon, I fired her up and she ran ok for a min or two, then dropped onto one cyl again..... so I started by taking the plugs out (quite awkward to get at the rear one.... Shocked ) the running cyl plug looked ok, the non-runner was black and oily... anyway i cleaned them both and switched them..... ran it again for a few mins and seemed ok.... Some of my 2 stroke buddies who run RGV's TZR's etc seemed to think that the problem could well be sparkplug related, i was a bit dubious that it would be so simple but maybe i'm going to be lucky.... I'll order some new plugs in any case....

check your coil, continuity on the circuit to generate the spark & the connection from the coil to the spark plug cap.
