Interpreting parts for oil pump and drive

Mon Dec 05, 2011 2:56 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm having a touch of trouble interpreting the parts manual diagrams. For one, I can find the oil pump but I cannot find the drive shaft in any of them. Secondly, I have located the 8 mm thrust washer (9) but I cannot find the other two o-rings (10 and 11).

Maybe I don't have a 10 or 11, as it says '(NOK)' for 11, whatever that means, and only has 10 it listed for certain models. I cannot find part number 10 on my bike so maybe this resides up inside the pump and I'd see it if I removed the drive shaft?

Anyhow, my bike is an SE with a wet clutch engine, so I'm not sure if it is even an MC21 motor, so things may differ...

All I'm trying to find out is where this 8 mm thrust washer goes in relation to everything else, and make sure everything else (the o-rings) are all there as they should be.

Or, maybe it's just easier if I posted some pictures of what I've got and someone might be able to help me out as to what is missing:

Here's that 8 mm washer, not sure where it goes:

See below:

The 8mm washer goes on the bottom of the oil pump drive
The 19.8mm o-ring is already in place
The other 8mm O-ring goes where indicated on the second picture above. Probably best to enlarge it as I have marked it a bit faintly

It is a bit faint, but I understand. Thanks for clarifying. I'll have to grab myself a new 8 mm o-ring as it seems to have disguised itself and scurried off, hiding somewhere while pretending to be something else.

I should replace the two o-rings behind the water pump drive, but I cannot locate them in the parts manual. Can anybody tell me what size they are?

The two O-rings behind the water pump drive, you say? Well, just to be totally correct, let me say this:
I think that you will find that the helicaly cut plastic water pump gear is driven by the helically cut primary gear on the end of the crankshaft.

The straight cut gearbox oil pump gear is driven off the small straight cut gear on the back of the clutch.
It is the two O-rings behind this straight cut gearbox oil pump gear that you are talking about and I believe, without checking, that they are identical to the O-ring used under the MC21 two stroke oil pump. The 8mm x 1.5mm O-ring referred to above. 91307-283-000

It seems that people quite commonly refer to the gearbox oil pump gear as the water pump drive gear, but I think this is quite incorrect.
Sorry if I sound a bit anal here. But just trying to be correct.
Does anybody wish to agree with me on this? The gearbox oil pump gear thing, NOT the being anal thing Smile Well OK,.. both.
For a bit of clarity on this, see the 4th to last picture here.
