Heres a copy and past of the info,Looks like a winner for next season.
Golden Era 2-strokes (2012)
Below are the draft technical specs for the whole thing, this will be split into 2 separate classes. One for all non-production machines (except 125cc bikes) and the other for production based machines (and 125cc GP bikes). There will inevitably be some blurring of the edges in the case of certain machines and these will have to be looked at on a case by case basis, before being allocated to one class ...or the other.
At the bottom of the page are a few examples of queries Dave has answered already.
1. ELIGIBLE MACHINES
All 2-stroke racing solo machines built before 1st January 1989.
All 2-stroke production based solo machines built before 1st January 1998.
Plus, up to 375cc 2-stroke solo racing machines built before 1st January 1992.
Plus, up to 126cc 2-stroke solo racing machines built before 1st January 2005.
TT Formula 2 solos from in period are eligible.
“Specials” from in period accepted on a case by case specific basis.
All motorcycles must comply in every respect with all requirements for Road Racing as specified in the ACU regulations.
2. DISPLACEMENT CAPACITY
The displacement must remain within 25cc of the original design for the engine concerned and may not exceed the cc limits as listed above for the relevant year of manufacture.
3. MINIMUM WEIGHTS
The minimum machine weight at post race control must not be less than:-
Up to 125cc – 68kg
Up to 250cc – 98kg
Up to 350cc – 108kg
Up to 500cc – 118kg
Up to 750cc – 124kg
4. NUMBER PLATE COLOURS
Front number colours are:-
Up to 125cc – Black background / White numbers
Up to 250cc – Green background / White numbers
Up to 350cc – Blue background / White numbers
Up to 500cc – Yellow background / Black numbers
Over 500cc – White background / Black numbers
Side number colours are free.
5. CARBURATION INSTRUMENTS
Carburation instruments are free.
6. FUEL
All machines must function on fuel in conformity with current ACU Regulations. E85 Bio Fuel is also permitted.
7. FRAME BODY AND REAR SUBFRAME
For all machines, the engine and frame must be from the same model unless an older engine is married to a frame made within the period restraints listed above. (TT Formula 2 machines excepted)
8. FRONT FORKS
For racing machines, the front forks must be of a type freely available at the time the machine (engine and frame) was originally manufactured and upside down forks are not permitted.
For production based machines, front fork fitment is free including period based upside down units.
A steering damper may be added but may not act as a steering lock device.
9. REAR FORK (Swing Arm)
For racing machines, the rear fork must be of a type freely available at the time the machine (engine and frame) was originally manufactured.
For production based machines, the rear fork unit is free.
10. REAR SUSPENSION UNITS
Rear suspension units, including all linkages and mounting points, are free.
11. WHEELS
Wheels are free, provided they remain within the minimum size range for the machine capacity as listed in the current ACU Handbook.
12. BRAKES
Brakes are free, but no carbon or ceramic units are permitted.
13. TYRES
Any tyre, slick, treaded or full wet may be used by all machines.
The use of tyre warmers is allowed.
14. WIRING HARNESS
The wiring harness is free.
15. IGNITION / ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM (Cdi)
In principal the ignition control system is free, but may not contain any traction control or launch control functions not associated with the machine periods as listed above.
16. OTHER NON-PERIOD MODIFICATIONS
There are numerous non-period modifications made to certain types of racing machinery, some of which are safety related and others which are performance related. In principal any safety related modification will be permitted, whereas performance related modifications not listed above will not be permitted. This does not include tuning of barrels, porting, polishing or changing any component in line with what was considered acceptable ‘in period’.
Data acquisition sensors other than for road speed or detonation are not permitted.
Any disputes in this area will be adjudicated upon by the series eligibility officers.
THE FOLLOWING ITEMS MUST BE REMOVED FROM PRODUCTION BASED MACHINES
Headlamp, rear lamp and turn signal indicators.
Rear view mirrors.
Horn.
License plate bracket.
Tool box.
Helmet hooks and luggage carrier hooks.
Passenger foot rests.
Passenger grab rails.
Safety bars, centre and side stands (fixed frame brackets may remain).
The reason for allowing late model 125GP machines is to allow them somewhere to race in a grid made up entirely of 2-stroke machinery. This will increasingly become an issue due to the phasing out of 2-stroke racing at World and European level.
Wheels being free is to allow easy replacement for damaged or difficult to source items and allow access to more readily available tyres.
The minimum weights are in place for the various categories to make use of exotic lightweight materials pointless.
Production based machines have quite a lot of leeway on crossover of parts from different models in order to enable competitors to source the most readily available spares.
For anyone interested in racing in this series, wether doing the whole championship, the odd race or thinking you may enter a round but not 100% can you register your interest by emailing Thundersport GB, email address on the website contact page, Dave Stewart's address is here :- jamiestewart9@googlemail.com
This is a real chance to get a full grid of two-strokes, each in there own sub catagories, TV coverage (Motors TV) top tracks and great organisation. People talk about previous and now defunct championships which were great (Aprilia Challenge), now here is a chance to be part of a modern championship, and hopefully it'll be one which people will talk about for years to come. _________________ Runner up Derby Phoenix open 250 2006
We've all seen it, no late model Aprilia road bikes, no late model NF5 RS's, short races and far worse track time value than DP F250. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
short races and far worse track time value than DP F250.
Hmm that based on fact? Lets take Cadwell this year for an example, Thundersport day 1 20 mins qualifiying, two 8 lap races. Day 2 10 min warm up 1 8 lap race and 1 9 lap race, cost for entry £240.
Now I wasn't at the DP meet at Cadwell in sept but here is the comparison Day 1, 1 6 lap race and 1 5 lap race. Day two 3 8 lap races. So on race distance yes a whole 2 laps more, however I know when I raced with DP Day 1 practice could be as little as 10 mins and there was no warm up on Day 2, although you can correct me if I'm wrong, so track time is more at Thundersport, as for entry price you could let us know how much it costs, also take into account that Thundersport is Televised. Not only that but I've been at DP meetings when they've decleared a result after 3 laps!! I'm not knocking DP, as I think they are a great club and I raced with them for 6 seasons before moving away, but to make the above statement is very misleading. Also can you confirm how the grids are allocated as well, used to be on championship positions or recieving date of entry, not really great to be honest. _________________ Runner up Derby Phoenix open 250 2006
