Has anyone had any success repairing an MC18 RC Valve Control Box? I am having difficulty sourcing a used one so I am considering opening it up and attempting to repair it. Any experience you have would be appreciated.
Thanks Andy. I see that the parts manual lists a few different control boxes depending on the serial number of the bike. From your experience do you know if the boxes are interchangeable, or do I have to get one from a specific series of MC18?
there is a company over here in Perth WA that can test and repair the pgm unit/ they are called CARMO electronics - i found them on the web and used them for my mc18 race bike. i beleive that sent the unit to holland for testing but not sure but i had the pgm tested and back in the bike in 2 weeks

Only the MC16 and the 1988 MC18 use a separate RC Valve control unit. I expect they will probably be interchangeable, but whether they use the same RC Valve timing is another matter.
However, I expect any part number (control unit) from an '88 MC18 will work on any other '88 MC18, irrespective of PGM-I/frame number.
Make sure you have your RC Controller/RC Servo/PGM (or CDI, in the case of MC16) terminology correct. Not saying you haven't, but there are comments on this thread now that are starting to confuse the topic.
For reference only:
1987 MC16 -- Twin CDI's, with separate RC Valve control unit
1988 MC18 -- PGM-I, with separate RC Valve control unit
1989 MC18 -- PGM-II, with integrated RC Valve control circuit
90~93 MC21 -- PGM-III, with integrated RC Valve control circuit
94~ MC28 -- PGM-IV, with integrated RC Valve control circuit _________________ Andy.
