Oil pump - how to tell if its working ok

Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:50 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi, I'm just in the process of rebuilding my MC21 after a crank bearing siezure.... my question is regarding the oil pump. I have bled it by removing the bleed screw until no bubbles are present, then with the pully fully open rotated the drive shaft by hand. but all i get out of the end of the nipples is one small spot of oil about every 9 turns of the shaft... my feeling is that the pump is faulty, although i know its controlled by a solenoid as well as just the pully and drive shaft.... I expected to see slightly more oil. I have had a look inside the pump end covers but there seems to be nothing that can be serviced.... The pump did seem to work ok before the siezure, but i'm a little wary...
Can anybody give me any advice? cheers, Rob.

As long as you are getting oil out as you are then it is fine, I had the exact same dilemma a few months back and asked the same question. Check for oil through bleed screw then turn shaft till it comes out of end of pipes, you wont get loads out especially turning it by hand but as long as it drips out you are set.
