Fuel Filters

Mon Aug 27, 2012 11:31 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have a ordered a new fuel tap and it hasn't come with a filter. The tank has a lot of debris in it even after swilling it out many times. So I want to fit an in-line filter. Any suggestions on what filter of another bike/car/van might work on the rather large diameter fuel pipe (I think it's 10mm). As a proper solution is there anything I can do to get rid of the sediment. The bike had been stored for a long time and I'm guessing it wasn't prepared properly

Thanx in advance

Phil M

The fuel line inner diameter is 8 mm. The stud on the petcock is appr. 9.5mm

This may sound a bit rough but,..
I am restoring an old 1972 Yamaha 100cc 2-stroke commuter.
The tank was very rusty on the inside.
I put a mixture of diesel and gravel in the tank and shook it about for about half an hour.
Quite a workout. But it did an OK job. Not perfect of course.

Get all the loose bits out, then fill the tank with cheapo vinegar, takes about 14 days but comes up like brand new.

Did you seal it up with that tank gloop or just leave it?

Instead of using gravel, use a length of small chain so it's easier to remove once finished.

Unless you trying doing this to a GPZ900, and the chain ties itself in a knot around the internal breather pipes !!
