16T front sprocket?

Sun Sep 02, 2012 9:09 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Anyone know if it's possible to get a 16 tooth front sprocket for an NSR?

Off to Aintree in 2 weeks and need some more gearing options for that huge back straight!

Cheers

Hey 2Smoke,

Yes it is possible. We use a 16T front sprocket meant for the NS400R.

If I remember correct you will have to plate grind it and have a spacer turned for the side. Running 520 pitch of-course.

If you aren't up for the job, I may have one or two new/slightly used ones which I can sell.

Also remember you will most probably have to change your chain for a longer one.

Cheers
Mario

P.s PM me if you want to buy the sprocket.

I bought one from an online shop in the UK along with a 14 tooth and a load of rear sprockets to go with them, i think the smallest i bought came from someone on this forum and was a 38 toother. Can't remember that shop's name now as its maybe 3 or 4 years ago now. The sprocket just went straight on, used the same bolts and retainers and off i went.

You can have clearance issues with the stock MC16 crankcases, but they can be fitted.

It's not easy to get hold of 16T sprockets for the NSR any more, I can however do you a 38T rear through the Marketplace if you want one.

I did wonder about the space in the crankcases, but it may just go in with some careful 'persuading'!

I so far have 14T, 15T 36T 38T 41T, 42T and a 45T but with the SP gearbox it's all gone to pop!

Will research some more on the 16T front if its available!

I know that there's no spacing problems on either the 21 or 28 motors when combined with a 520 chain. A 525 chain might run you into problems.

Sometimes a 16t sprocket will hit one of the front sprocket guard lugs on the crank case. It's not on all of them and if it does about 0.5mm needs to be ground off the lug.
