Hi I'm new to this forum, a little information about me I have always had large sports bike with the smallest being a zx9r. In the past i have sold my bikes to buy new ones/other man toys and have always wanted a 2 stroke sports bike to start a collection off. I picked up a MC18 for not much more than a carton of beer off a young guy who decided to strip it down with the attempt to rebuild it, however he lost some parts and i don't think he had the skills to complete the task hence the cheap price as he thought it was a mc28 because it was complianced in 1995. I am planning on rebuilding it as a track bike for a bit of fun and to kill some spare time. What i am wanting is some input and or some possible issue arising on running an after market programable ecu with compatible aftermarket coils/cdi/stator/ trigger sensors/harness to the ecu and a different servo for the RC valves, which can be programed into the ecu. I know it would be easier to just run the PGM II and associated components but all i have is a cracked PGMII which i don't know is operable. And in Australia all the other parts and components are near impossible to find. The programable ECU unit is from the two stroke shop in Cairns the cost is $195AUS and can accommodate a RC servo valve (which i was going to use a RGV servo because of accessibility being easier to come across) I don't find modifying things to work or fit and as it being a track bike there is no need for lights etc. If parts where more readily available for the MC18 i would do a complete nut and bolt resto to factory specs but this is not possible with the basket case of a bike that i bought.
Thanks for the input or advice
PS. I dont get onto the computer much so if you post a reply or a question don't get too annoyed if it takes me a little time to respond Thanks
I've got an Ignitech lying around that hasn't made it onto a bike yet....I ran out of time with a little guy crawling around the floor. It's supposedly based on a MC18 ignition map and is all ready to go.
There is a preset mc18 curve but you need to double check all the settings before you plug it in . We had to alter the powervalve operation on my unit - it may be correct for a stock bike
but my bike has many different parts on it .
Thanks for the info and the input, with your Ignitech is it a complete system running their coils rc servo etc or are you running/planning to use honda coils and components with the Ignitech ecu. I had a look at the ECU and on face value they appear to be similar to the ones the two stroke shop can supply. I notice someone else has posted a question about and see that some members are running them with the standard MC18 power curve programmed in. Does anoby know if they can custom program it to suit particular mods.
The ignitech can just plug in and replace the PGM, you use all existing everything. I got as far as testing that it works and then go distracted on other things (mainly rebuilding bikes for mates).
You can modify the curve in this to whatever shape you want, you adjust points at certain increments, I can't remember the RPM interval.
