Tyga special exhaust collar - How to seal?

Sat Dec 01, 2012 7:50 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys, when installing the Tyga 'special' exahaust manifold collar, is it necessary to use Honda OEM gaskets?

What have people done?

Having issues getting a good seal...

I smear Threebond 1207B on the mating surfaces - seems to keep the black goo in check for a fair while.

Between the TYGA stub and the cylinder you will need to use the Honda OE gasket. Between the stub and exhaust use a Threebond.

I found a fix quite some time ago to the leaking exhaust issues. Here is a post describing what I did:

http://nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10650&highlight=leaky

Main points:
Don't use the orange RTV sealant - use the high quality grey stuff, it's rated to higher temperatures
Use the KTM vitron o-rings
PTFE tape around where the flanges slide in may also help

Mine haven't leaked since following this method. Hope this helps.

Interesting ideas...

Mine is a race bike so the exhaust is coming off fairly regularly. I guess I'll stick with the Honda gaskets for now then get a bit more extreme if needed.

Are those gaskets NSR specific or are they readily accessible?
