Hi there
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a query in regards to the MC28 speedo.
I want to use it on my VFR400 but am not sure if the pgm card or whatever that is will block my attempts at getting it going.
Does anyone know if it can be adapted to run on another bike?
Has anyone fitted it to an early model nsr?
Thanks
P.S - sorry for not registering but I don't have an NSR
No reason why you can't register! Just because you don't have/want an NSR, it doesn't matter, we don't discriminate! :)
The NSR's PGM-IV E.C.U. is attached to the back of the display, and the card is needed to activate both the ignition and the display. There is no way to use the speedo without the PGM unit I'm afraid.
There have been a few instances of MC28's with failed PGM-IV's that have been modified to use an earlier PGM-III (MC21 - under the seat) but still use the PGM-IV for the speedo/trip meter/temp guage. This would indicate the ignition/RC Valve (powervalve) circuitry is a separate to the display circuitry, but you will still need a "swipe-card" to activate it.
That makes it very clear.
I wanted to use the mc28 speedo because it looks trick, but working around the swipe card is going to be too much of a pain.
I'll go with the aprilia rs250 dash instead.
