MC18 or not?

Tue Jan 08, 2013 9:36 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi All,

I noticed an MC18 abandoned in a neighbours garden - it looks a right sorry state without any fairings, seat etc. Other than that it is all there and the owner is willing to sell it (along with a KR-1!) to me. Price to be negotiated....
Now I have been admiring all the Tyga performance mods on the internet but note that they mainly cater for the later models after the 18. Is the MC18 worth getting? I am more interested in a modified bike than a standard one and wonder if the 300 kit can be fitted (seems to be some debate on here though if it is the right thing to do!) and any of the better looking bodywork? I guess the Tyga seat designed for the 21 etc can be made to fit it with a different subframe?

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this model?

Many thanks
Andy

Hello Andy, and welcome.

The TYGA 300 kit can be used with any NSR250 bottom-end. All the top-ends are interchangeable. (You'll soon learn the NSR250 is a far superior and friendly design than any other 250 2-stroke!)

TYGA made a GP style MC18 race seat. I'm not sure if they still do, but they are out there. Put a "wanted" in Classifieds, and try e-mailing TYGA. Their race seat fitted the stock subframe.

Hi Andy,

Many thanks for the reply but the MC18 turned out to be a 16 and I kind of lost interest and bought the KR-1! The MC16 is for sale (and in a sorry state) so if anyone is interested I could try passing on contact numbers. He needs the room....

Thanks again,

Cheers
Andy

Shame. There's not much wrong with MC16s, it's just a choice thing. Check out Geko Racing. They may still have an MC16 F3 to drool over

the later tyga seat unit will fit if you extend the tyga subframe with some box section steel of a slightly smaller diameter inserted in the frame rails, not too much work involved! Cool
