Sealing off the Power Valve with the HRC Jet Kit

Thu Apr 11, 2013 5:53 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

So I just bought another NSR Very Happy and it has the HRC Jet kit in it. Right now, I have the red X joint that has that bleed off to prevent the power valve from working, but can I just cap off the tubes that come out near the throttle bodies to eliminate all that tubing and not use the red X joint ( I believe the X joint is part number 16181-nkd-840 ), or is there a specific reason that the red X joint needs to be used? Thanks.

Michael

The red X piece has nothing to do with the power valves. The power jets however, a little.

The red X piece is to bleed air to the air solenoid. To blank the power jets you either have to remove them and solder them up or fit the HRC blanks.

Thanks Stephen, yes, I meant the power jets, sorry. I'm relaying information that my mechanic wants information for. He was saying the the red X piece prevents the solenoid from working by having the bleed there, but he wanted to know if all that plumbing is necessary or if it's possible to just put a cap on the tubes that come out near the throttle bodies to prevent any air from making the solenoids work, or if there is a specific reason to have that red X piece? I hope that makes more sense?!?!?!?

The air solenoid plumbing does not just control the power jets. The bosses on the carbs can not just be blanked.

If you wish to remove all the plumbing you must correct the carbs either internally or externally using some sort of adjustable correction, eg jets in various sizes.

Bear in mind that the NSR air correction has many many combinations. Why disable something that works so well?

Even in HRC SS/SP form, it's running 2x solenoids and 2x jets, and throttle position and RPM sensors. It makes the NSR the smoothest 250 2-stroke bar none! If you think you can better the system, be my guest! Smile

It's really not that complicated, or obtrusive, on the MC21. I would (and do!) leave it intact. Only when you go to F-III spec do you remove all the air correction, but the F-III uses a different ECU and different carbs, and is far more biased towards 100% throttle anyway!

We did have mixed results, both good and bad by changing the jetting within the X and Y piece's. I think I still have a number of X's with different size jets. The standard set up works well though and is easy to set up.
