Cylinder damage

Mon May 02, 2005 6:57 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm sure you've all seen melted pistons before, but here are mine! Is it normal that only the front seizes; I assumed that both would seize. Is there a reason why it would be the front?

Looks a little like someones 150cc lower cylinder I saw the other day Sad

The top came apart through heat, detonation or whatever and the bits probably helped the piston to lunch itself and the cylinder wall.

Nasty business when this happens - bad luck Sad .

The image does work, they're not allowing hot links or something else dodgy, maybe the path is too long, put it in i.e. and you get the pic.

This is it, I've rehosted it on my isp account.

Good effort John! I'm proud of you! Very Happy

As is StephenRC45, I'm sure...

and Luke "The Destroyer" Fabian!...

I believe Luke managed this with LESS than 1/2 a lap of Donnington!

The top 300 piston died on a 210 main jet and that last piston died on a 230 main jet and all!

I'm getting worried now! I have the HRC ignition on the way from Japan for my MC21, is this going to cause detonation on a pretty much standard SP engine? I have 135 mains in already, daytona filter but the rest is stock.

What evasive action can be taken to avoid detonation? Also, surely too large mains could potentially "wash" the oil from the cylinders. I know that isnt the primary problem here, but could that happen?

StephenRC45, any news on the V5 coming back yet?
