NSR250 heated grips

Thu Nov 21, 2013 10:52 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I see that a popular auction site has some heat grips listed.

I was thinking of getting a set along with a top box, Scott oiler and a pillion seat back rest

They'd go well with crash bars and auxiliary daylight running lights I think.

heya

What about: Highway pegs, with dual forward controls, top triple clamp with 8 inch riser and the full monkey ape hangers manufactured from chain links welded together and chromed. Then cut, rake the frame and fit a 20 inch extended chrome springer front end sans brakes, a sissy bar and twin slash cut drag pipes.

Paint job options: Matt black or an american flag with 7/11 and M.I.A motifs or my personal favourite the everythings flaming with flaming: skulls/naked women/money/jesus/mum/flames/John 4:16/Paul Shaffer

cheers

I guess for regular use during the winter months I could go with:
Handlebar mitts
Scott Oiler
Slightly raised 'bars

But that's about it.

Otherwise, I'd just get a four stroke.
I'm sorry but the thought of a Top Box on a sports oriented 2-stroke,... well, c'mon now.

Heya

I made up a set of highway pegs for my FZR400RR, there was an engine mounting point on the front of the engine that was unused, i think because they went from a perimeter to a beam frame style, so this mounting point was redundant. The bike also had no lower fairings.

I made the pegs from 6 inches of 20mm diameter rebar with an 8mm bolt of the appropriate lenght welded to the end, times two.

They made the bike a far more rideable proposition on trips longer then 20km.

This is where it gets weird though, imagen piling into a corner leaning over hard with your feet inline with your hands horozontal position, truly a strange sensation after a life time of conventional sports bikes.

cheers

I don't think the charging system would even be able to handle the extra 20-40 watts the grips would need. Unless I measured wrong with my multimeter, it just produces enough wattage to support the system and lights at normal cruising rpm.

20 to 40 watts is less then the draw for the headlight.

Ya, but would someone want to turn the headlight off every time they were to turn the grips on?

Heya

Yeah, i mentioned that as i added an extra headlight plug on my MC - 18 loom because the MC - 21 chassis it's in has the extra headlight. And i failed to consider if the extra bulb might create problems.

This wasn't a serious thread!

However, with more and more LED lights on the market, it would be a good idea to switch to one of the low current draw bulbs if you are going to fit heated grips. Wink
