I have been starting to look at the engine after I have sorted out most of the other stuff.
Are the clutch baskets in the attached picture ready to be replaced or will they still do their job after I have carefully filed away the edges on the grooves (which the plates made)?
How do I know the steel plates have to be replaced? I can hardly believe they wear noticably because they only work against the fibre plates and the aluminium of the baskets.
I filed the wear marks from the inner hub and the outer basket on my clutch, mine were real bad. Seems to work just fine, maybe a little noisier as the plates are all moving that little bit more but its all good.
Its quite a job but worth doing. I chose the file route after getting the parts priced up!
The steel plates warp rather than wear I think. Renew the lot, its worth it to know its all new and its one less thing to worry about.
