Storing a crank

Mon Jan 27, 2014 7:05 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I've decided not to sell any of my NSR spares. I figure I would be kicking myself somewhere down the track given the short supply.

Anyhoo. I have a wet clutch engine not being used at the moment. What is the best way to store the engine, particularly the crank, to keep it safe ready for next time should doom befall my other crank.

After attending the Island Classic, and seeing one sole NSR being hosed by a field of TZ350's I've decided next year I am lobbing my 250 into the mix.

Ideally? Oil its surfaces, put it in a metal box which you can seal airtight and add some silica gel (or suck the air out).
Realistically? Oil its surfaces, tightly wrap it in some thick plastic, store it in a dry place with little variation of temperature and humidity.

Hey Greggo.. you're going to have company. My 16 y/o son tells me he's riding my MC21 in P6 at the island classic next year.
