mc18 swing arm issue

Sat Mar 08, 2014 12:11 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys,

Just been down the shed for an hour, messing about with my swingarm. My R2J swingarm is damaged where the footpeg has put a hole in it racing or on the road. lucky I managed to source an r5k one for a good price so abandoned fixing the r2j one in favour of fitting the r5k arm. Only problem is the width between the wheel spindle mounts is different Confused the R5k arm has a gap of 231.5mm, and the R2j has a gap of 225mm. Now I know the r5k dia and rim width are different but assumed they would be the same at the hub? The other possible explanation for the difference for the width could be due to the impact damage caused to the r2j arm. If they are meant to be different I guess the obvious solution would be to source a r5k 17" wheel which would also improve tyre choice, but they seem to command a premium for this very reason so would rather make up the 6.5mm in spacers. any help would be very much appreciated.

Tim

The R2J swinging arm differs in many ways to the R5K arm. One main thing is the rear brake mount. The R5K's frame is also different to accommodate this.

The R5k also used a 18" wheel like the R2J but in 4" width rather than 4.5".
