SO I've just had my little MC21 fully rebuilt and have its maiden ride day booked at the Island for next week.
I keep hearing horror stories about 2t's blowing at the end of Gardner because thay are not jetted to suit the sea level atmospheric conditions..
The bike has been dyno'd (63RWHP) and jetted at TSP in Warragul (a long way from the ocean) and the last thing I want is to damage that sweet, sweet engine.
Will it be benificial to put some extra 2t oil into the fueltank to give a bit of extra lube at full noise?
Or should I just pull up after it tops out in 6th and feather it around turn 1?
Cant wait to get it out down there, I've owned this bike for about 10 years now and it'll be the first time I've ridden it in anger
There a few things you can do to help prevent it seizing, but first thing I would do is speak to your tuner to establish how rich or lean the jetting is now, tell them that you want to do a track day at PI and ask do they think the current jetting will be ok for that. Obviously you don't want the bike so rich that it bogs down.
If you're running std gearing then Gear the bike up by going up a tooth on the front sprocket and consider taking a rear sprocket with you that is two teeth down on the rear which you can change between sessions if required.
See if you can get hold of some Shell 100 race fuel (avgas) as it is hi octane but more importantly contains Led which is a lubricant.
And yes a very small amount of oil in the fuel tank can't hurt.
What day you going noidea? I'm there on my MV on the 10th.
Also if you know where to find a 16T front - tell me!
Plan to check your jetting at the track and go up one needle clip or one main jet size to compensate for sea level. Every bike and state of tune is different, but pack a few mains, check your plugs and you'll be fine.
Do not put oil in the tank ! I leans out your jetting . Read the notes on jetting if you are not sure .
Honest advice is to get a load of jets , find out what your local atmosphere pressure is compared to PI , compensate for the change and go up 1 or 2 sizes . The easiest way is to jet it rich , it will splutter at 11000 for eg , jet down 1 size and the splutter will raise to 12000 for eg , jet down 1 more size then it should rev to 12500 easy and still be safe .
A 16T sprocket , if you can't find one , you get the ns400 front sprocket , surface grind it down to the same thickness as the normal sprocket and then get a spacer to line up the bolts and the chain . You need to put the angle back on the teeth , quite a job !
Gear it so that it just peaks before the brake marker at the end of the straight
