Oil pump outlet lines

Sun May 11, 2014 5:08 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey guys

Quick question.
Is it normal for oil to leak out of the oil pump outlet lines after going for a ride.
I have clear lines between the pump and carby. After I go for a ride, the next time I have a look at the lines I can see half of the tube has no oil in it (half closest to the carby)

If they are meant to retain their prime is there any suggestions as to why one of my lines are leaking?

Thanks
Scott

Check for slit in the oil line Scott. It shouldn't leak at all and if it is it will get air in the line.
Change the line for a new one and make sure you bleed the air out as detailed in the manual.
Don't run the engine unless you have read up on how to bleed etc.
You will need to run with some 2 stroke oil mixed with the petrol until all air is dispelled.
Good luck, hopefully no engine damage done.

I took the NSR out of storage this week.
Since its been in storage for some time, it was important to take off all fairings and do a detailed once over.

And much like you I saw the air bubbles in the clear tubing (which I also upgraded from black to clear with this fear in the past of oil starvation...).

Started upstream to ensure good flow from the tank,
Purged air from the oil pump
Gave the tube that was slid over the nipple a tap...found the source
Air was seeping in from the nipple and the tube.

The wire pinch clamps that Honda could be better I think...upgraded to larger spring clamps...but the nipple didn't allow the clamp to clamp correctly...resulting in seeping air.

Countermeasure in the end, was to replace with new clear tubing and re use the Honda OEM wire clamps.

thommo,

If you decide to get the constant tension clamps, I'm happy to split a box with you Smile

Hey guys

Thanks for getting back to me and confirming what I had suspected.
Ill take it all apart tonight and see where it could be leaking.

nxrsr20 - Hey mate. Ill try and track down some of those clips and we can split them.
(any idea where sells them?)

Thanks Scott
