From a timing perspective, I'm sure at least the flywheel will need swapping if you still have all the 21's electrics.

Yeah I changed the flywheel. It's actually really easy to change (using the correct tools and techniques!) so is a must do really. It will run poorly without the change, and could cause damage. The alternative is to change the timing, which is discussed in these forums too.

Is the engine the only MC28 part? Still using the 21 airbox, carbs etc? Any known modifications to the engine itself?

It's also worth checking to make sure the powervalves are clean, adjusted correctly and operate smoothly.

engine is std i think ! i got it from gecko and i dont think dan knew if it was a mc21 or a 28
it just had no power when i rode it ,really flat , and i started to run very bad and only just got me home
it wouldnt rev at all , just so numb when you try'd to rev it !
it just got worse and worse im a bit pissed off with it at the minute
i might end up just rebuild the other motor and put that back in ! but after £1100 i wouldnt mind using this one lol
ive got most of the 250's or had them in the past and never had one running like this ,not even when one had siezed and managed to limp home !

A bit after-the-fact, I'm afraid, but it would've cost less than that to have us rebuild yours!* Confused

*Unless, of course, your crank had failed.

Andrew , your not charging enough, you could be making far more than 300 pound for a rebuilt crank, I had to pay over 2000 oz dollars for a brand new one.

Main bearings are £200 a set + shipping, or subsidised at £150 if included with a crank rebuild.

Prices for some of our NSR250 services can be found here.

Over $2000! Did that include fitting? I bought a brand new one from my local Honda dealer in Melbourne at the start of the year for $990. I did have to wait two weeks for it to arrive.

I can't recommend them but I used SEP Kegworth for a full crank rebuild for £220. You can make your own mind up if you think they are good enough. Same as for the aftermarket fairings do your own research
