pgm 4 playing up

Sun Dec 28, 2014 11:45 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi guys... The last two times I have gone to start the bike it has played up. When I put the card in it sounds like the steering lock solenoid chatters and the side stand yellow light flickers on and off. The battery had the full 12.6 or more volts and the time before last I managed to start the bike after a while.
I remember it doing it before after the bike had been left standing for a while.

has anyone else had the same issue and where they able to tell what it is?
I don't like leaving the steering lock off. But if it keeps happening I guess I'll have too..

Mine did the same for a while. It wasn't the PGM, it was the steering lock setup. Even though the toggle for the lock looked like it was in the unlock position; if I pushed the lock toward the unlock position it stopped doing it. Basically the steering lock was trying to engage but the wheel was pointing straight ahead.

Guys..
I may be posting something that you already know, but I found the answer to my problem. Even though the battery showed over 12 volts and was left on an Oxford trickle charger which I guessed would keep my Yuasa battery in top condition, when I used jump leads off my zxr the PGM worked perfectly and therefore the battery must have been faulty.
New battery put in and bingo I get P-030 on the dash.
No more chattering and looking for bad earths or the like.
Thought I'd post it in case someone else with an MC28 suffers the same chattering when inserting their PGM card.
