2 stroke in gearbox

Wed Jan 20, 2016 8:04 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

2 stroke oil started going down while the bike was stood, raised alarm bells! took the gearbox filler cap off and 2 stroke oil fired out ah sh*t. Hopefully its the oring what moves down the oil pump shaft common problem so i'm told with mc21. What sealant do people use to keep the oring in place?

To be fair, you don't actually need to bond the seal in. Agreed, it is a known event, but it's hardly common, and I expect the first time the seal has done that on your '21 in almost 25 years! Wink

Any good automotive RTV sealant will do the job, if you really must bond it back in. Give it all a good clean and degrease, and push it back in, and it's probably good to go for another 25 years! Smile

Also a question about the thrust washer that goes on the bottom of the oil pump/sits on the crankcase. What purpose does it have?

The washer stops the drive gear from acting like a drill, and boring its way down through the soft alloy crankcase! Wink
