MC28 Fuel Tank Key

Fri Feb 12, 2016 8:35 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I purchased an MC28 lock set (fuel tank cap, helmet lock, glove box door lock). The key worked fine in all but when I tried the tank cap in hand, the 2 latch bars at the bottom retracted but now they are stuck in this position and I can't remove the key. I sprayed the lock with penetrating spray lube just in case something is sticking in the lock tumbler but no luck removing the key. Am I missing something? Is it possible to remove the lock from the cap and if so how is it released? Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks
Andy M.

Hi there
That is what happens, push the part metal ring just beyond the rubber seal on the inner part of cap towards the key evenly when it finds itself in the closed position the key will release,
Good luck

all the best,
jonmac

Hi JonMac,

Yes of course! All clear as day.....now that you have pointed it out. I should have played with it a little longer but was getting nowhere and did not want to break the small plastic end off the key. Better to ask than be sorry.
If I ever need to switch lock tumblers from one cap to another can the 2 bottom latch bars be released allowing the bottom sleeve to be removed and possibly allowing access to the lock tumbler for removal?

Thank you for your help !
