NX5 wheels on MC28

Mon May 02, 2016 8:26 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi,
I'm a new owner of MC28 and would like your opinions on things I'm about to do. May I know what difference does it make if I were to install between a 5.25x17 rear rims and a 5.5x17 rear. Thinking of a NX5 rear. What are the pros and cons between these 2 rear and the stock rear? Any help or opinion will be appreciated

Regards
Jarrod

The NX5 wheel is the opposite hand to the MC28 due to the NX5 chain being on the right. Also, race wheels aren't designed to cope with pot holes and generally poor roads.

I don't think it's a great idea.

You will run into clearance issues with the rear tyre/swingarm too. The standard rim is 4.5", and things are tight even with an early 5" NX5 wheel. Add to that, that it's very easy to bugger up the handling by fitting wider wheels/tyres.

There's no real issue running the NX5 rear wheel backwards... most don't even realise there are a different number of spokes, let alone that it's on backwards! Paul@TYGA ran one for years! The fitment of the HRC rear wheels differ to the MC28, so you would need a special "cone" adaptor machined.

I agree with MarkR, that's it's probably not the best idea to run race magnesium wheels on the road for everyday use. It hasn't stopped many from doing it though!
