Wondering who can clarify what "color" and "code" numbers on the white label on the rear sub frame are applicable to the three "R" models available in 1990?
As far as I'm aware there were three options for this year, are the color and code numbers different for each? If so, what are they?
Thanks for your help guys. My MC-21 had an unfortunate incident last weekend so now it's a good time to revert it back to its original colours as it left the factory.
maybe those out there who have a 100% original 1990 250R model can help out here? as far as I know there were 3 different models for the year. Thanks in advance!
The colour label only tells you the base colour. NH196 is (Ross) white, and R109 is (Passion) red.
If the label says NH-196 then it could be either red/white or blue/white, as there is no way outside of Honda to tell.... and good luck finding out! Some have claimed Honda sent them a confirmation letter, but I am very skeptical about that.
If it's an NH-196, just pick the colour you prefer. No one will be able to tell you any different. Even if the sticker says R109, there's still nothing to say the subframe wasn't damaged in a crash before, and replaced with a used one off a reb/black bike! In my opinion, so long as it's (relatively) stock it will be worth money once back to its former glory.
Standard bikes (maybe delimted, with a set of race pipes -- keep the original pipes!) are considerably more valuable than modified bikes. _________________ Andy.

Thanks for the very usefull information. This particular 1990 MC-21 bike has the R109 colour code on its rear sub frame. Therefore it can only be the Passion red base colour with the black trim, if the sub-frame is the orignal one?
Not sure how common this colour option was, but I have not seen many for sale.
Currently the bike has a non standard purple paint job - not a factory colour at the time.
The fairings have been repainted at some point, and some were originally red abs, some white abs, and some black abs. The tank looks like it was lifted off a "base white with red trim" model as there is red overspray on the forward lower third of the tank, thus suggesting a white/red factory paint job.
But as you elude to, the rear subframe may have been changed....
If I had to make a best guess, and it wouldn't be any more than that, I would say that the tank was taken from a doner bike and resprayed. Some of the bikes current farings were orinally red, but the front cowl is not. However the insulation tape on the wiring under the front cowl has remenents of a red color - probably were the wiring has rubbed on the red abs fairing. I can see this on other locations of the bike as well. Therefore I'm leaning towards the bike originally being Passion Red. Appart from the non-standard paint job, the bike is original in every other way as far as I can tell.
