MC21 Monoshock Length

Wed Aug 13, 2014 12:56 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

hi All,

i'm new to the forum, have searched around to no avail, so here i am asking you guys:

what's the length of an MC21 monoshock, from eye-to-eye?
and also, what do people normally replace their monoshock with (other make's compatibility)?

thank you in advance

i realised that some thread actually had this info but there are variations to the answer, for example the shock length is quoted as 300mm or 302mm or 305mm or 306mm or even 310mm.
i need a definitive answer of which length is the correct one. same as the second question.

thanks again

Welcome, where in Indo are you? It's extremely rare to hear of one there.

Which model.shock have you got (not that it matters).

You can get the usual suspects like öhlins, hagon, yss. Was there an issue with the shock? They are refundable with a reputable suspension shop in this day and age?

Have you thought of a rebuild? I had my R6K shock rebuilt by MCT of Suffolk, they did a superb job including refurbishing the corroded damper rod for less than the cost of even the cheapest new shock. Their number is 01449 777161 speak to Darren.

We're doing rear shock rebuilds now.

We can offer uprated springs and stainless steel remote reservoir hoses too.

The service is only currently available for NSR250 MC18SP and MC21/28 SE/SP shocks, and HRC shocks.

i'm located at Bali, pretty popular among Aussies i suppose...
in Java there are quite several, if not many, NSR250 owners. all of them are grey imports. one of them is actually rebuilding a super stunning MC28 SP

anyways,to get back to topic,
mine's MC21 R model, so nothing too special. hence the question to replace the shock altogether rather than repairing it.

been thinking about going those brands but with today's currency, i would have to think multiple times before dropping such a massive amount of cash. so going the cheap and easy way.

so was it 302mm the correct one (as mentioned in Ohlins' website)?

and is there other brand or make that is compatible (or with minimal mod) with my NSR?

thanks again for the responses!

So what measurement you want: eye to eye or from top to tail? I've got an R shock lying around I can measure, can't get accurate eye to eye though.

So you're an Aussie and not Indo? I will reserve my judgement on what I think Bali has changed into.

That is a neat MC28 SP.

Other options are a CBR 600 F4i if you can get your hands a new remote reservoir cable and shave a bit off one of the mounts. It will give you a harder spring rate and different valving, I don't know what the ride is like though.

To have an SE/SP shock rebuilt with a new spring, all parts re-zinc plated, a braided line and a bleed body end fitted to the remote you're looking at about £300.00 inc VAT.

You may as well buy a new one, depending on what quality you are looking for, does that include p&p both ways and is there a warranty with it ? Shocked

Good luck with that! Laughing

No-one's saying you need to have the new spring, the stainless reservoir hose, or even the replating. But even with all that done, it's still about half the cost of an aftermarket shock.

Many people want a stock appearance these days too, which adds value to an NSR.

...does that include p&p both ways and is there a warranty with it ?
Maybe you'd like us to come and take the shock off for you too? We could give the swingarm and linkages a clean too, while we're at it! ROTFLMAO
