MC28 wire splice

Sun Apr 23, 2017 5:49 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Dear members.
I am the owner of a MC28 SP from 1994, and I have some doubts about the wire splice work to derestrict the engine. Just want to know, if I follow the instructions of the wire splice explanation at the NSR-world.com web, the speedo would still works as always, or it will become a oil meter. I´m not sure if I do the wire splice the speedo would be disabled. I need it working because I will use the bike on the road.
Moreover, as the HRC 030 key card is out of order, I get a shop in Japan where is availlable to get the 010 HRC key card, so, I guess the wire splice work will be the same for both hey cards, doesn´t it?
I´m little bit unexperienced with this bike, and I would appreciate any information about how can derestrict the engine.
And because the price of program and buy the HRC 010 key card is really expensive, I want to be 100% sure that this key card will works with the wire splice explanation.
Many thanks mates!

The speedo is disabled with an HRC card. The wire-splice is a "hack" to get the card to function with a street wiring harness.

As with virtually all hacks, there is a level of compromise and reduced functionality, and with the MC28 you will lose the neutral/oil level/side-stand warning lights and the speedo.... everything you don't need on a race bike, and wouldn't have with a genuine HRC harness! You get to keep the lights, indicators (turn signals) and horn, and should happily consider that a bonus, or you are pretty much stuck with 40hp! Sure, it's possible to squeeze a little more out of one, but nothing worth writing home about, and certainly nothing near the 60hp of a derestricted NSR.

The wire-splice, just like an HRC harness, doesn't care if you fit an 010, 020, or 030 card. It's just a wiring harness! The "key" information (pardon the pun) is coded between each card and the PGM-IV.

As the old saying goes, "performance costs!". In the case of the MC28, it costs both financially and [some] functionality.

Many thanks Andy!
Your answer is very clear and I have a more closed approach of what I need to do with the wire splice and HRC key card.
That was all I want to know about how to redestrict the engine of my tiny baby. I heard some people made the wire splice in different way and get the speedo works as ususal, but I think this is not simply work to explain on the web.
The problem using the HRC card and can´t have the speedo working are the traffic radars... too much common nowadays, and a high risk to get a traffic ticket!!!
But as you said, you have to paid a fee to get all the power of the bike.
I will consider it before get the HRC card.
Best wishes.

We've fitted small mountain bike speedos to MC28s before. You can get them with backlit LCDs so you can see them at night too. They are either triggered by a small magnet that you can bond to the disc (or wheel), or ones now that utilise GPS.
