Both flasher bulbs blown - coincidence?

Tue Oct 30, 2018 5:16 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,

Out riding my MC21 a little while ago, and came home with both front and rear R/H flashers not working. Parked it, and decided to look at it today. Turns out both bulbs are blown. Something leads me to suspect something else is the cause, as it's odd that both front and rear would go at the same time. Could this be a regulator/rectifier problem? I'll go check the voltages after I post this and report back. In the meantime, does anybody have insight in to this?

Hard to say, but it could be the result of a spike or surge. Problem is even the newest MC21 is 25 years old now, and problems can creep in anywhere. Corrosion within the harness somewhere, or chaffing caused by missing harness restraints or general wear and tear could've created a short.

Fingers crossed it's just a coincidence... maybe they were just 25 year old bulbs?! Smile

As a side note however, the reg/rec is a known [relatively] weak point on the MC21.
