On way home from picking up the bike got about 30km and the bike putted out, after letting it sit for a while it started up again.
Decided to not try break the motor anymore than it could be.
Found a guru that works on these bikes power valve etc is not my expertise, immediately told me the power valves were not working took the bike and next day told me the wiring to them was wrong power valves working, next trick was to check the barrels with the pipes of and the guy(Troy) decarboning them. One barrel nikasil missing in action at the exhaust port. Another barrel was sourced kindly by Troy. And he put on some K&N filters as the bikes airbox was missing in action. Onto to carb rejetting. And then the tank turned out to be a menace kept on feeding the carbs with sludge. Also discovered some lazy chap prior couldnt be bothered to find smaller jets so just used wires inside the jets to make them narrower.
Troy dropped off the tank for me to have a go at taking out the rust, i failed horribly after the famous washer shake around and 6 hours later rust out but then the tank sprung a leak. I think my wife hates me after the bathroom looked like that. Anyways took the tank in for electrolysis and lining came back looking in a better condition for sure.
Sorry not all this happened in one day just decided today to do a topic on the progress. Today also under troys advice he is going to split the casing to make sure that nikasil isnt hiding in a bearing somewere and to also make sure none if the sludge from tank has messed anything up in there. Will post pics of that later

I've seen some bodges before, but that's certainly one of the worst!
Little wonder there was plating missing off the barrel! _________________ Andy.

So Troy split the cranck case and low and behold the rust in tank may have done its damage it intended to do.
Clutch still looks good, but the bearings are shot, so much side to side play, apart from the fact that wrong bearing was used also. Now in the desperate hens teeth search for R2J crank bearings.
Well, dont tease him, tell him who you got em off, and anyone else that might need em. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
Ok i actually did get hold of andy via facebook messenger and he could have supplied the bearings and seals, **** also had but i managed to source some locally from Mario Smit.
They arrived within a day
Anyway further i have stripped the paint off tank to go in for a repsray.
Main bearings are also available off the shelf at your local bearing supplier sans locating pins and clips. A decent machine shop can machine the grooves and holes to accept retaining hardware from the old outer race's. The integrity of the old parts used is irrelevant as they are kept captive between the crank case halves.
A bit more footwork but you have a smorgasbord of OEM quality brands to choose from!
Ok got round to splitting the crank the middle bearing was almost none existent, honda def knows how to make bikes that just keep running regardless of the condition they in
It's certainly amazing what can run... and fairly well too, sometimes. (Bad starting and/or erratic idling are the usual giveaways.)
Almost every 89~97 crank we've split has seen the centre seal fall out in several pieces, and all have been shot. _________________ Andy.

Crank split at this stage and its discovered the center seal as a different ID to the one that came out the bike possibly an MC16 crank this one, luckily the mech doing the bike is also a precision machinist and has made up a sleeve to go onto crank so the new seal will fit nicely
