Are they all the same or is there any subtle differences?? Looking at buying a set and need to know if they are from an MC28 or not.

MC18 magteks are 18" rear not 17", and MC28 should be self explanatory, MC18 and MC21 rears will not fit MC28, all fronts are interchangeable. If you are looking at MC28 magteks you are obviously aware that the rear is a different fitment to the others, apart from that and the MC18 rear being 18", which you don't want, no visible difference.

If my memory serves me right, they have the date stamped on a spoke, so at least you know you will be getting an early or late one.

Ive been riding on the road on magteks for at least the last ten years, also tracking them along with 20+ year old hrc and marchesini magnesium rims on my RS250. It's also worth noting that NSR magteks are not pure magnesium, unlike the HRC RS250 rims. I haven't so far experienced any problems.

Nothing to worry about with stock Magteks. As Silikesguiness says, there's very little actual Mg content in them, compared to a true race wheel. If you ever have the opportunity to hold an HRC Magtek and an NSR Magtek at the same time, you will see [feel] they are very very different.
