Honda Build Quality

Sun Apr 19, 2020 6:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

As NSR owners I'm sure we are all aware of the legendary Honda build quality which was at its best in the 80's and 90's when they were building these beautifully engineered 2 stroke swiss watches. I'm in the process of building an MC28 and had bought a nice new rear undertray as I intend to have it show room stock and a cut down rear fender just wont do1!

The 28 undertray differs slightly to the 21 and has a little rubber mud flap attached to protect the shock from road crud. Now how do you suppose the mighty Honda choose to attach this flap?

No your eyes do not deceive you it is stapled on!!! F***ing staples!!! Seriously what the F**k were Honda thinking!!! I have seen a few Friday afternoon solutions in my time but this one takes the biscuit!!

Under tray differences

Sun Apr 19, 2020 6:51 pm » Post: #3 » Download Post

Hi PG there are a couple more differences in 21 to 28 apart from that lovely little flap,
The 21 has the tin bracket half way up for the gen wire to pass through and the 21 rearsets and exhaust hangers need a piece that you have to cut off it has a channel in it for this to be done ,
Thanks jonmac

I have noticed the same when going through my MC21...you get exquisite HRC parts and construction but the "road" bits are a bit of an afterthought...at least the MC28 had a mudflap!!

Any chance I can have the HRC staples before you chuck them! 😂

A 28 eh Paul, if you're not careful, you'll have amassed as many as Johnny.

Max I wouldn't mind if they were special HRC staples, these are just standard Honda staples!

Don't worry Les, no danger of catching up with John Very Happy

Mark my words they will be super lightweight!

- If you are parting with anything which is not showroom condition let me know, I am after all sorts of bits to try and improve the overall look of my bike...and I like a bit of "patina"!

I would have bought this new from David Silvers a few years ago, my MC28 has been on the back burner for some time.

Its always worth trying a part number on there website first to se if stuff is stil available and cheaper than used parts are sometimes going for.
