Sat May 22, 2010 8:07 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Has anybody tried fitting NC30 (or 35) adjustable fork tops to NSR SE/SP forks??

A straight swap?

I think he means he has a knackered SE/SP top and he wants to find a replacement, are the VFR400 (NC30) the same?

OK, I'm going to stick my neck out and say I reckon they are! The fork top (the cap) is the same part number 51454-KV3-781, but the twiddly bit for the pre-load and rebound is part of the cartridge so there's no part number available. It does look strikingly similar though, and I would be extremely surprised if it wasn't the same as the MC21SE/SP

Hi Racer
Did you ever try fitting NC30 caps on SE forks, I have the same issue.

Cheers

I have Rick Oliver from the NC30 world looking into a replacement set of pins, we'll have a measure up and I will do a post 👍

Is this due to cost, or some other reason? You know TYGA make a set of fork tops, with adjusters that actually work?

I had seen that Tyga make a fork top in other posts on this forum but I can't seem to find them on their website...but that is not my reason.
I am trying to return my bike to OEM where at all possible, money is not the driver on my restoration. For example, I recently installed Honda fork seals when a pattern set would easily have done the job.
I am happy to persevere and work out an issue to the end, it is part of the fun of being a home mechanic for me.

The adjustable tops can be found here: TYGA Performance TYLY-1038 (I won't link to the gawdy blue/red versions!)

The "bolt" (the outer part of the fork top) is the same part number between NC30 and MC21, but obviously the adjuster is part of the damper/cartridge assembly. However, if I really had to take a bet on it, I'd guess the NC30 adjuster is just as useless as the MC21 unit, and therefore likely [relatively] interchangeable. I imagine the only thing different will probably be the adjuster needle profile, but given that OEMs [at least back then] don't want you to adjust the suspension outside of a rather controlled range, it won't make much of a difference.
