Can anyone help with where I can get a new thermostat for my mc21?
I notice they’re not available from Honda, was (is) the same one used on other models?
Thanks.

Do you just need a thermostat or did you specifically want a new one? Johny Mac has cleared most of my spares out but I probably have a spare one in a box somewhere if you want a used one.
Mine has stuck open, I’m sure. Warms up to 60 degrees nicely through town, but drops off scale when speeding up.
Not worried if not new - do you think yours works ok?
Thanks Steve.
Bugger me! They're not giving that away, are they?!
And £24 shipping is just taking the piss! 🤬
My thought too - glad I’m not the only one!
I can’t believe that Honda made a thermostat just for the nsr. I know the gauge sender unit is a car one too, just hoping the thermostat is similar.

To be honest doesnt that sounds fairly normal? I normally see higher than 60 degrees in town but obviously depends on the ambient temperature and it is going to drop when you speed up and the air flows through the rad.
Not trying to teach you to suck eggs or anything, the thermostat closes of the radiator circuit when its cold and opens it up when the engine reaches temperature. If it wasn't working then surely you wouldn't see a temperature drop when you speed up as this is the radiator doing its job and cooling the water(the temp sender is on the thermostat housing) does that make sense?
If you have any doubts just remove the thermostat from the housing, drop it in a pan of boiling water and you should see it open and close again when you remove it.
Seems like you should be able to test whether the thermostat is working. Fill a pan with enough water to submerge thermostat completely, put thermostat in, heat slowly with a thermometer in the water and watch to see at what temperatures the thermostat begins to open and also when allowing it to cool at what temperature it begins to close (assuming it is functioning). I've never done this with an NSR thermostat but have with other bikes. Good luck with it. _________________ -Jim

From my experience I can declare. Test for thermostat in pan using thermometer shows nothing. I tried this test several times on different thermostat. In the pan they show that all is OK. They opened by the right temperature and closed properly. But they did not work on the highway. You can believe me. I live in the place were temperature can be lower then -35 degree Celsius. And thermostat is really critical part of the cooling system. Only new one solved the problem always.
