I'm looking for any insight on this set up. I recently bought another NSR (MC21R) that has a NX5 front end attached with CBR600RR(?) discs and stock MC21R front wheel. Its a great looking bit of kit but its a lot shorter than my MC28SP race bike. I had my race bike lifted as much as possible because even with Tyga rearsets, I would still occasionally touch them down. I weighed about 76kg(170lbs) when racing years back. I could get my elbow down as well but that was immediately followed by my shoulder, then head, then ass....
I was interested in fitting the NX5 forks to my race bike but there's a big difference in ride height between them. MC28 rear height (swingarm pivot to ground) is +33mm and the front (top of bottom triple to front axle) is +32mm. MC21 has an Ohlins shock but can not go any longer as clearance between Tyga pipes and swingarm is already very close. I seem to remember seeing a photo of tube extensions to an UD Showa fork attached to a NSR.
Thanks for any info, Scott _________________ MC28SP, '16 KTM 500EXC, '16 Beta Xtrainer, '07 BMW 1200GS, '96 Ducati 900SS
Hi Scott, cant answer your question about the forks, but as for the tyga rearsets touching down, i had this on my mc21 track bike, and cured it by fitting shorter HRC pegs to the tyga hangers, looks neater too. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
I have '92 NF5 USD forks on my MC21, and it's fantastic... but then again I'm slow! But, I'm also fat, and haven't encountered any problems. Unfortunately I can't tell you if NF5 forks are longer than NX5 forks, but even a numpty like me could feel the difference.
What I will confess though, is I do also have an HRC rear shock, wound out to MAX ride height, if that makes any difference. I've still not scraped the TYGA rearsets though, and when I did use to ride [relatively] fast, I rode more "125 style" with lean angle than hanging off.
When I ran with a '91 NF5 RWU front-end I suffered the front fender touching the underside of the headlight fairing under heavy braking... those forks really are short, but still didn't grind the pegs.
Of course, none of this helps you, Scott... I just thought I'd share it! 🤣🤣🤣 _________________ Andy.
