Can you use early MC18 side fairings with an MC16 nose cone?

I got myself a used FRP nose cone from an MC16 for about $90 to use on my project bike.

The problem is that I don't have any side fairings and at the moment there are no MC16 FRP side fairings listed on Yahoo auctions.

However, there are few FRP fairing kits for the MC18 and the early model MC18 looks like it has the same type of connection to the nose cone as the MC16.

Here is the nose cone that I got:

And here it is mocked up on the bike, hopefully getting an actual MC16 stay soon

Hi buddy

I believe you can - there are very subtle differences so they aren’t the same part number
I have both at home as I bought a cheap MC16 panel for a bit of plastic “cut and shut surgery”

I’ll get some pics -

Forgot I had these on my phone but will do a better comparison over the weekend

The only difference I can see is this cut out – clearly the MC16 won’t fit an 18 as the water ducting is too small but going the other way 18 on a 16 should be fine
I will also check the screw holes for frame mounts

Thanks for those, my main concern is these three holes up here.

The other stuff shouldn't matter that much in this case since I pretty much assumed that the mounts will have to be custom made, since the frame that I'm using is quite different from NSR250

Okay

That makes it super easy, I’ll take a picture with the mc16 side panel mounted to the MC18 cowl

I know it’s the wrong way round to what you want to do - but if the holes line up then they will be compatible the other way round

And just for the absence of any doubt – I own an MC18 and here is the MC16 panel I bought that’s held up against the MC18 top cowl

Hope this helps and please post an update on your project, I’d love to know more about it

Thanks, that's perfect! Also, read your bike thread; it is an absolutely stunning bike!

As for my project, it's a mishmash of various parts.

I have been mostly documenting it over at the Apriliaforum
https://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?381268-Spookex-s-little-RS50-of-horrors

Since I only have a 50cc license here in Japan, I got myself a rather neglected Aprilia RS50. Decided to upgrade it slightly, but it went off the rails (on about page 4). Now I'm trying to make it work with GSX-R1000 K1 front forks, but GSX-R1000 bridges were too expensive, so I used the ones from a YZF-R1 instead. Since the GSX-R1000 forks have dual calipers, I needed a wheel that supports those, so I got one from the MC16 since it is the same size as the RS50 front wheel, and it has a speedometer drive.

Then I got myself a swingarm that probably came from an ND5 RS250, but with no accessories, so I figured out how to modify the RS50 frame to fit it, got a rear shock and link from a different year YZF-R1, and used that. For the rear wheel, I wanted a wheel that matches the MC16 look, but in the more common 17-inch tire size. MC17 CBR250 wheel was perfect for that, and it was also in the stock width of the RS50 wheel.

Here are some recent pics (and yes, I am building a motorcycle in my apartment on the 2nd floor)

Just had a Quick Look through your build and it’s nutz 😁 in a good way
You had me with bit about working outside under the lights of a vending machine 🤣

And the engine detonation made my jaw drop, I’m going to have a proper read later but thanks for sharing

Haha! Awesome!

If you're not single, does your other half have a sister?! 🤣🤣🤣

Unfortunately, I am single. Or is that fortunate since I can spend all of my meager university student budget on the bike? haha
