Can anyone help, Just picked up my race NSR mc18, the chaps been running it on 50:1..... i thought this was a bit high, Would it hurt if i lowered the ratrio in the tank to say 40:1 or eveb 30:1, if got a track day at cadwell a week friday, so wana make sure its goning to run nice!!! cheers
I run mine between 30:1 and 33:1. If you alter it to far from what he was using you will have to rejet it due to the increase in oil flowing and therefor the decrease in fuel. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
Ta ill keep that in mind, just 50:1 sounds a bit week for a bike thats suposed to be used on the track!!!! Oh well, ill try and increse the oil slightly! maybe 45:1 and thebn 40:1 and see how we go¬
Just in case you don't grasp the significance, what Stephen is saying, is that if you increase the amount of oil in the mixture, there'll be less fuel in there. Obviously.
This can make the bike sieze, though a too-weak fuel / air ratio will result.

Ah......didnt think of that....so it works both ways, too much oil and BAng, too little oil and Bang........Doh!!!! okay is there anyway of telling if the bike is getting enough OIL???? Plug chop etc etc.... same wqay your looking after me, i wana keep the 18 going..... Doh!! I guess i should keep this in mind when i get the 21 jetted.. later this year...Thanks guys
Best thing you can do is sell the MC18 to me for £500 and not worry about it anymore!
HRC recommend 30:1, just so you are aware.
50:1 sounds rather weak to me, but then again, what do I know?!... I still inject mine because I'm just a big girls blouse! _________________ Andy.

He he, Nice one Andy, Actually, the 18 was bought to get a few spare parts for the 21 as they share some dont they.... Im gona trackday it for a while, then id like to Strip it down to frame and swing arm, and Jam a RG5 or NS4 engine in it!!!!!! he he good projetc in it.. but thats way off and i may change my mind, Dreams at the Mo, single swinger on NS 400 engined bike,.......That ratio is doing my head in, dosent sound right, think ill drop it to 45:1 and do a chop,,,,see what the plug looks like, Is it like the ol days, nice brown plug is good, black is bad??????
Found out today that it has none standard carbs, when i get a bit of time ill try and have a look and see what they are!!!
