Rebuild time?

Wed Jul 27, 2005 1:05 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

okay..
i just bought this bike and it has 22,000 km's on the dial..
not sure how it has been ridden, well maintanied etc...
its starts quite well, revs nicely , exhaust fumes are not too smokey..etc...

i read somewhere that honda recommends a rebuild at 20,000k's...
i havent even ridden this bike yet so i wanna put it back together as i got new sprockets, tyres, chain etc..

so how much more k's do u think i can do before a rebuild? its not like its gonna explode right(or is it Shocked )?

Best indicator would be a compression test. Ideally you wouldnt want to see anything less than 110psi on both of the cylinders and both of them should be about the same.

Pop into Repco or Supercheap you'll be able to pick up a good compression tester for about $35.

Make sure the bike is up to temperature before you do the test. Don't do it while the bike is cold, it won't give you the correct reading.
