Lights fade

Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:44 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

...so just got the bike rolling . It s jetted super rich ( it drinks up fuel like never before ) and I rev it up to 7k to be as kind to it as possible now that its still fresh. The problem is that when i brake or when it revs below 4k i get a noticable fall on the headlight's lighting power.Any suggestions on what to look for ?

Check the voltage accross the battery. It sounds like the battery is dying or the system is not charging it properly.

I'm sure we had the same topic last week...

Anyway:

With the bike at about 2000 rpm, the battery should read about 13.5-14.5 volts. Any higher and the reg/rect isn't doing it's job. Any lower and it could be the reg/rec, the battery or the alternator.

With the ignition off, the battery should read about 12.5 volts. Any less than 11.5 and it's due a sesion on an Optimate, or replacement.
