Bodywork - help

Hi All

Have aftermarket pipes on MC28 that take up more space than stock, hence stock lowers don't fit. Am taking a blade to the inner sections of the air ducts to give more space and reduce the smell of hot plastic but is there more space inside the Tyga stock shaped lowers or can you come up with another solution? Apart from the look and the sound and the supposed performance gain I am getting annoyed with myself for buying the new chambers in the first place

Don't be! Stock pipes are pants. I used a small block of wood painted black to space out the right hand fairing just below the footrest. Made the race scrutineers chuckle... Wink

Well, Dave beat me to it!! (I saw he was browsing the Forum too - I should've known!)

Usually a 10mm spacer is enough, plus all the mountings on the frame can be loosened and wiggled around a little to move the bodywork about a bit.

As he says, the stock pipes are shocking! Get the jetting set up correctly and the race pipes will be worth their weight in HP!! :)

All aftermarket pipes will I suspect, as the chambers are designed for power and therefor end up in the way. Honda didn't want max power, so could route them for cosmetics instead.

Thanx Dave Ett for your reply ...But at this point , I'm looking for specific examples of the combination I mentioned . I thought Honda deliberately restricted the Power Output of these bikes in accordance to suit manufacturing Law's in Japan at that time ???

Yes they did, which is why the shape of the pipe for power wasn't as important as the routing. Wink

To develop full power, the expansion chambers need to be "fatter" than the stock Honda pipes, and also shorter.

This means that any race pipe you fit will be too wide to fit inside the stock (or stock pattern) bodywork.

Some aftermaret designs, notably TYGA Performances GP250 fairing and Jha's latest range, will accommodate race pipes as it was designed around them.

I believe TYGA pipes and HARC Pro pipes are the worst for fitting because they are the fattest (i.e. most developed!) pipes on the market today. TYGA's GP pipes were only released 18 months - 2 years ago, and were built from scratch using the latest TSR software available at the time, so you won't find much better performance! A slight adjustment of the bodywork to fit pipes like these is well worth the effort, and will transform the bike in both power delivery and looks!
