When I bought my MC28 it was using Redline Racing oil. Someone told me that it gums up the carbs. So I switched to Motul 600. Before with the Redline the bike starts with one kick, even when its cold. Now with the motul it takes 4-5 kicks when cold, and sometimes 2-3 when warm.
What do you guys think about this?
I've only ever used Rock Oil except for 1/2 a bottle of Castrol R2 and I have heard questionable things about Motul regarding how thin it is, maybe there's that much of it in the mixture it's causing problems? My '28 ran on premix and the oil pump for the first tankfull when it was rebuilt and it was an absolute bitch to start.
I don't know much about Redline Racing but any manufacturer who claims to have seen a 5% improvement in power (I kid you not, 5%! Read the middle grey box here) by changing oil brands is probably best avoided at any cost.
Part of the problem with 2 stroke oil is even the cheapest nastiest £4 a litre duck oil passes the most stringent of industry standard tests. That and the fact we're always told not to mix brands and people tend to stick to what they know works. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
i have run some pretty nasty oil ( one would think twice about putting it in a lawn mower) at 50:1 in my cr250 and it never had a problem. starts using castrol tts then elf which i felt was better. now i am using a shell product in my nsr coz it is cheaper and it hasent caused any hart ache yet but am running castrol rs in my kx125 _________________ 94 mc28 SE
i am using motal 600 in both my NSR,s and both start no problem, and run just fine on it.
i also run it in my 350 yam. i had a lot of top end trouble untill i switched to motal 600, from a cheaper oil i was using.
i,ve used rock oil in a GAS GAS 330 trials outfit that got used real hard most weekends for two years, and only needed a ring when we stripped the motor.
I guess I will change the spark plugs and see if it gets better. Do you guys run a HRC030? What temperature should I warm it up to before I start riding?

I run an 030 card and have been known to ride off VERY gently with just 35* on the clock, noramly round at Monkeys at night as I feel bad sat there warming it up at midnight, 45* though normally.
Don't know what I should do really, anyone? _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
I was breaking a sweat trying to start my bike until I changed my plugs a couple of weekends ago - after that it starts on first kick
Myself and all of the NSR riders I ride with in Melbourne have been using Motul 600 and have not had any issues with it - we are using the oil pump and not premix. _________________ Jerry Lai

although some people slagged off the Motul 600 i always used to use it in my R, ran the bike on it for 3 years and did a few trackdays and never had a problem at all.
I use Rockoil now but only because i was able to buy a larger amount a bit cheaper than retail, otherwise i would still use the Motul. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax
