MC18 Tyga Pipes

Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:02 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Firstly, Merry Christmas everybody!

I'm just curious about the two different exhausts available from Tyga for the MC18. Appart from appearence, is there any power difference between the standard side by side, or the GP style?

Also what is the longevity of the clear coated steel compared to the stainless steel?

Aesthetically I would like to order the GP style as I'm doing up my mc18 to look like a GP test bike Cool (matt black, orange honda decal, white "sponser" stickers).

Now I've just gotta wait for the mc18 gp seat unit so I can order it all at once.

That's strange, as TYGA have told me for a couple of years now that they would not make mild steel chambers again.

I wonder if it's anything to do with our plans to release our own low-cost mild steel race pipes in the New Year?

I don't want to appear overly optimistic by posting figures, and they won't be at the dyno until February, but initial figures propose they will perform at least as well as any pipe currently on the market, and probably significantly better!

The software used to generate the chamber dimensions is highly sophisticated, more so than the more widely used TSR software, and the pipe builder has come into the NSR arena with no prior influence by the more mainstream Honda suppliers/tuners! This allowed him to start completely from scratch, and not base his design on a design, that was based on a design, that was based on a design, and so on and so forth!!! Smile

As for testing, we currently have a Dynojet 250, 1xMC18F3, 2xMC21, 2xMC21/300, and hopefully in a week or two an MC16, all for testing purposes! If I remember correctly, I recall one or two Forum Members offering MC28s for design/testing purposes too!

Yeah yeah, as I said (when it's working again) you can have a play with the '28 if you want, it not like you live that far away really and I have "other interests " in your local area, so if no one else volunteers a '28 I will Very Happy

And merry Chrismas everyone, this would appear to be the first post of the day!

Have a look under "tuning" in the main site for some graphs of MC18 with tyga and stock pipes.

Please excuse the log and the tape, they were just for alignment purposes and measuring, although they will be available at extra cost though, if anyone's interested!! Very Happy

Naturally, it's early stages, but so far the results are very promising. Hydro-formed (not welded cones) for the smoothest possible gasflow, and very light.

The pipes are likely to have a maximum of 2 cuts each, the way things are going, and fit inside unmodified stock bodywork - which is an added bonus, in my opinion!! Smile

We were discussing price internally just the other day, and don't know for sure just yet. It still depends on a number of factors such as finish and silencers, but I think we will be aiming for around £250 + a silencer option.

The pipes will use the RS250 bolt pattern, so the MFactoryWest carbon cans or our own alloy cans can be used, as well as HRC cans if you want to get a bit silly!

Basic finish is likely to be a 2000 degree ceramic coating, and we are looking into chrome too, but this will add more to the end cost. The chroming would only be an option though, as the aim is to make a high performance system available for a more realistic "everyday" budget. If we can keep the cost realistic, we are hoping the pipes would also them make a great track-day alternative (read addition) to the more expensive stainless steel pipes that many people own but are concious about damaging should the unthinkable happen!
