I've recently acquired a front magtek for my NSR. The previous owner of the wheel has sprayed SEVERAL coats of spray epoxy on them. What would be the best way to remove all this ? I'd love to sand them down by hand but there is no way to get into all the spokes. I've heard that using chemicals is a no no on magnesium. Blasting the only way to go? What media would be best?
Is there a special primer to use on the magnesium?
I got mine blasted, though the guy said they have to use a less harsh process because the magtek is made of a soft metal. Came out fine at the other end though. _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
I heard you should have a shop that can so Dow 7 coating (what ever that is) on them before painting to prevent the magnesium from oxidizing _________________ 1994 NSR250SE
blasted is the only way really, dont have them dipped or you will have no wheel left, i've just had mine blasted and powdercoated and they look fantastic. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

all depends on the coating that is on the wheel. when mine were done yhe usual bead they use wasnt coarse enough to remove the lovely orange, so the just worked it up until they found a mix that did.
are you thinking of doing this yourself?. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax
