NSR SP front Magtek question

Tue Nov 22, 2011 3:47 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have a stock 1996 sp with Magtek rims, is it just me, but my rear Magtek is done in a smooth finish, but the front has rough ( bumpy spoke legs) finish, is this normal? Shocked also I noticed on other bike that their are done in a smooth finish ( see link) how is that done?

Any help or advice, thanks -Gary

Gary,

The wheels on my bike, a '94 SP, are similar to yours. The casting on the front spokes is much more rough than the rear.

Thanks Scott for your re-assurance, do you or any one know, if its safe to refinish, or sand (smoothout) the front rim?

Hi Gary !!

Same in my bike. Front wheel has a rough finish, rear one seems smoother, but a little rough also. Be careful with the primer, you must use an epoxy primer ( fosfatant ) before you apply the color, otherwise bubbles will appear under the paint with the time.

I think that, if it's a factory finish, why not to let them as is.

Check also the aligment of the rims, Magteks tends to bend a little with the use, bumps, years .... , and check the bearings too, probably you'll need to replace them ( and also the seals )

Smile

My Winner's One had the same finish on the front wheel.

Both wheels were filthy from being in storage for so long...the rear wheel was very easy to clean but the front spokes were a real pain as the dirt became engrained in the rough finish.

HI Dextercitox,

so the question is, can you sand down the front Magtek to smooth surface to match the rear? Smile
