I'd never send cash in the post!

There's always a better way. PayPal, bank transfer, etc.

Whilst Jamie may be honourable, I wouldn't trust any postal service in the world with cash, especially Royal Mail!!

I was a little worried at first but had no problem! Sent him a $1200 money order and my parts showed up a week later.

Americans sending money to a Canadian?!... Whatever next? Cats and dogs living peacfully together?! Very Happy

Seriously though, does he not have a PayPal (even though it pisses me off what they charge me!) account? I know the Japanese want everything done through bank transfers, even the big companies don't want to take a credit card from foreigners, but surely Jamie's a bit more clued up being a westerner?!

Regardless of where I am, as long as I have access to a PC, I can transfer from PayPal into my UK bank account, then withdraw from an ATM charge free. Admittedly it isn't instant, but it allows me to manage the money I haven't got from a beach anywhere in the world!

I'm banking on my local KFC opening a PayPal account one day!! Very Happy

How much does a money order cost?

He doesnt have PayPal.

He is a stand-up guy. I met him once when I lived in Japan and did a little dealing with him myself.

Most distance/internet transactions done in Japan are done with the Japanese version of a Postal Money Order or with a direct bank transfer. Over there, these transactions take place with no charge, which makes PayPal look like a complete joke.

Yeah, PayPal charges piss me off - I think they are too high really - but you are paying for the convenience I suppose.

The JPO, from what I've heard, isn't the be-all and end-all though! The Prime Minister wanted to reform it recently, but they were too stuck in their ways, and I've only ever seen one auction on Yahoo that said the seller would ship internationally, but you still needed to pay via bank transfer with a Japanese account!! They are in the dark ages over there in a lot of respects!

It's all very well when you confine yourself to dealing in a single country, but when you want to make transactions with people all over the world, I think you should choose the most widely accessible option, and that's currently PayPal I'm afraid. I have a NOCHEX account too, which is much cheaper for me to receive funds, but the only person that I know savvy enough to use it too is Fontyyy... probably 'cos he's a geek like me!! Very Happy

I'm surprised that Jamie doesn't have a PayPal account - maybe he's been in Japan too long!! Smile If I sell something I make as many options available as possible to the buyer: PayPal, NOCHEX, bank transfer, personal cheque, MO, cash on collection. The idea is to make it as easy as possible for the buyer, else they'll just go somewhere else where it's easier to do the deal!!

Oh, and Fontyyy...

Theres still a lot of shops in Japan that dont accept credit cards every transaction is done with cash or cheque Shocked

The post office aint that bad as when I needed some travellers cheques cashing they were the only ones who would cash them, as the banks would not cash them after 3 P.M Question

As for Jamie he does not have PAYPAL/NOCHEX accounts (dont know why but I think it is to do with him living in Japan for so long) but he does have a friend with one .

Best thing to do is email him and ask him what option's he can offer you.

I have had stuff off of him in the past and he is an honourable guy so I would'nt worry too much.

I also think the majority of the forum have dealt with him in some way or another, so as for being ripped off I dont know of anyone that has had a problem with him.
